Repair

GMC Sierra 1500 Pickup Seat Motors (Collision Avoidance System)

Newer model Chevrolet and GMC trucks come factory with motors build into the seat for collision avoidance. These motors will vibrate either on your left leg for left obstacles or right leg for right obstacles. When there is a problem with the system, Drivers Assist System Malfunction will be displayed in the instrument panel.

On this particular truck we isolated the problem to the driver’s seat. Next step was to remove and uncover seat so that we could inspect motors and wiring. During the inspection we found the harness going to left side motor of driver’s seat was rubbed in two. It seems as the driver enters and exits the vehicle, pressure is applied to this certain harness. Overtime it cause enough wear to break the harness in half. We removed the motor and harness in order to repair. Once assembly was on the bench we were able to solder wires back together and cover in shrink tubing. We added an extra layer of protection to prevent this problem from happening again. Once all components were reinstalled and codes cleared from the computer, we tested extensively to make sure the customer’s complaint was corrected.

After 20 miles of road test and climbing in and out of truck 15 to 20 times, we were confident giving the truck back to customer knowing the problem was resolved.
