Come out to swing your clubs, laugh with friends, drink some cold ones, and pull together as the amazing community that you are! This year we are raising money for an oncology camp CAMP SUNRISE – that runs through Johns Hopkins. This camp is a week long camp that Bohde absolutely LOVED!!! The people are amazing and the kids are smiling the entire time (literally). The camp is for children going through treatments as well as survivors. Children can get their treatments here and then head out to the craft tent or the sports field or where ever their group is.

Oncology doctors and nurses donate their time to be out with these kiddos. They have a pool as well as a “dance” for the children. As you would typically get your hair done or paint your nails or wear fancy clothes for a dance, these kids don’t typically have hair. So they cover their head with wigs or even spray their noggin with color and sparkles. Both the boys and girl paint their nails (why not right?!) Bohde liked his toes painted. They are blue right now, lol. The counselors are survivors themselves. It is an amazing organization that is full of love and support and “normalcy”. Normalcy is something that everyone is looking for during all of this.

A local family member- Nathan, will be presenting the proceeds to Camp Sunrise this year. He is a young survivor himself. Nathan is volunteering as a camp counselor this year. He is an amazing and strong and loving individual that attended this camp as a patient a few years back. Nathan and Boh were in treatment together at Hopkins. Boh called him “The Big Kid”. They would go to the play room on 11S (in the onc wing) and play Nintendo DS together. They would sit together and do their thing. “Momma is the big kid here today?”

I do not know the reason why people are dealt the cards they are dealt, but i do know I am so very grateful for the friendships that we all have made through all of this. All because of the amazing children that God has given us. We hope to see you there!
